In [6], a structural modeling approach is proposed to provide a direct link between the observed selfsimilarity characteristic of measured aggregate network traffic, and the strong empirical evidence in favor of heavytailed, infinite variance phenomena at the level of individual network connections. In particular, many On/Off sources with the pareto distributed On and Off time, can generate the aggregated self-similar traffic. This is very useful in the simulation study.
