The Ethernet is the major type of LAN implemented in the Internet. Leland, Taqqu, Willinger, and Wilson [2], demonstrate that Ethernet traffic is statistically self-similar such that none of the commonly used Poisson based traffic models is able to capture this fractal behavior.
