Quick biography



Dr. Li Qiu is currently a professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

He was born in the city of Changsha (the capital of Hunan province) in the People's Republic of China. He received his Bachelor's degree from Hunan University in 1981 and his Masters and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 1987 and 1990 respectively.

Since 1990, Dr. Li Qiu has held research and teaching positions at the University of Toronto, the Canadian Space Agency, the University of Waterloo, the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences, and the University of Minnesota. He joined the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1993 and has also held visiting positions at Zhejiang University, Australian Defense Force Academy, and Harbin Institute of Technology.

Dr. Li Qiu is a fellow of IEEE. He is now a distinguished lecturer of the IEEE Control Systems Society and the general chair of the 7th Asian Control Conference which is to be held in Hong Kong in August 2009. He has served as an associate editor of the publications IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control and Automatica. He is now a member of the editorial board of International Journal of Control. He was honored in the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control Best Student Paper Competition in both 1989 and 1990. One of his papers received an honorable mention in the 1997 SIAM Activity Group on Linear Algebra Prize.
