There are four reasonable ways to get to the HKUST campus from the New HK International (Chek Lap Kok) Airport:

1. By taxi

This takes about 40 minutes and the fare is around HK$400.

2. By airport express and taxi

Take the Airport Express train to Kowloon station, its second last station, and then take a taxi to HKUST campus. The train ride takes 25 minutes and costs HK$60. The taxi ride takes about half hour and costs approximately HK$130.

3. By airport bus and taxi

Take the airport bus #A22 to Lam Tin station, its last station, and then take a taxi to HKUST campus. The bus takes more than one hour and costs HK$40. The taxi ride will take 15 minutes and costs  approximately HK$80.

4. By airport bus and local bus

Take the airport bus #A22 to Lam Tin station and then take local bus #298 to HKUST. Bus A22 stops and bus 298 departs at the same bus terminal. Bus 298 takes 40 minutes and costs HK$5.20 (exact change).

As a compromise between money saving and convenience, the second way is recommended, especially when travelling alone. The fourth way is not recommended unless you have very little luggage, plenty of time, some knowledge of Chinese and a mood for adventure.
