Research Interests
Wireless communications and networks, green communications, Internet of Things, adaptive resource allocation, cognitive networks, cooperative communications, heteregenous networks, and beyond 4G systems.

Biography
Professor Ben Letaief received the BS degree with distinction, MS and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University, USA. From 1990 to 1993, he was a faculty member at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Since 1993, he has been at HKUST where he is currently Chair Professor and Dean of Engineering.
 
Dr. Letaief has contributed to the advances of wireless technologies, including several major developments in OFDM and MIMO along with multiuser resource allocation, which are considered as the core technologies for 4G cellular systems and other advanced wireless networks.   In his field, he has over 460 journal and conference papers and given invited keynote talks as well as courses all over the world.  He has 2 China patents and 11 US patents and made 6 technical contributions to IEEE standards.

He is the recipient of many prestigious awards including IEEE Marconi Prize Award in Wireless Communications; IEEE Harold Sobol Award; IEEE ComSoc Publications Exemplary Award; Purdue University Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineer Award (2010); IEEE Wireless Communications Technical Committee Recognition Award (2011); 10 IEEE Best Paper Awards, and 6 Teaching Awards. 
 
He served in many IEEE leadership positions including IEEE ComSoc Vice-President for Conferences; elected member of IEEE Publication Services and Products Board, and member of IEEE Fellow Evaluation Committee.  He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications and has served as General/Technical Program Chair of IEEE flagship conferences (e.g., WCNC’07, ICC’08; ICC’10).
 
He is an IEEE Fellow and ISI Highly Cited Author.
