Dear Friends of HKUST School of Engineering,

On behalf of the School, we would like to cordially invite you to attend the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) School of Engineering Alumni & Friends Reception in San Francisco on the 19th of February 2013 (Tuesday). The Reception is co-organized by the School of Engineering (SENG), the Center for Industry Engagement & Internship (IEI), and the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE). We are delighted that this special event will be held in one of the top restaurants in the city – the Fifth Floor Restaurant & Lounge in Hotel Palomar on Fourth Street. With the great atmosphere, terrific drinks and hors d’oeuvres, and most importantly, many old pals and new friends of HKUST, it promises to be a memorable and enjoyable gathering.

Through this event, we hope to keep in touch to our alumni and friends in the Bay Area, California, and beyond. We would also like to take this opportunity to establish new contacts with the local industry as the SENG recently established the Center for Industry Engagement & Internship whose mission is to promote collaboration with companies in both recruitment as well as research activities.

The reception will coincide with the 60th IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC), which will be held on Feb 17–21, to ensure that many of our alumni and friends working in the semiconductor and IC industry will be able to join us. Furthermore, we are pleased to announce that HKUST has achieved another fruitful year at the ISSCC with two student papers and two student research preview (SRP) posters. The presenting student authors and a number of ECE faculties will be at the reception to share with you their latest research along with the many new developments and expansions ongoing in our Clear Water Bay campus. Prof. Ross Murch (Dept. Head & Chair Prof.), Prof. Howard Luong, Prof. Philip Mok, Prof. W. H.  Ki, Prof. C. Y. Tsui, Prof. George Yuan, and Prof. Patrick Yue (Director of IEI) will be at the reception to greet our alumni and friends.

Please do not miss this great opportunity to see many of your former teachers and classmates all at the same time, and to show support to HKUST and SENG! You never know who you may get reconnected with at this special event. So, please RSVP by email to Ms. Amylia Chan, or by fax to +852 2358-1485, with your title, company name, and contact info, before 13 February 2013.

For any inquiries, please contact Ms. Amylia Chan. We look forward to seeing you on the 19th of February.
